The Harris-Walz Ticket Is a Strong Incentive to Go Back to California.

I’ve been travelling for the past 20 years. I left Santa Barbara, California, in February of 2004 mostly out of disappointment for the blind jingoism that permeated the loud, mistaken, popular support for the Iraq war. Later, I kept travelling out of the sheer impulse to keep moving, even as the election of Barack Obama to the Presidency in 2008 restored my admiration and pride for the wisdom of the American electorate.

But the backlash to Obama’s historic, almost-unbelievable achievement proved to be of yet-unmeasurable proportions, so, since 2016, any plans I might have had to return to the US were no longer acceptable to me. Now, since Joe Biden anointed Kamala Harris as his successor, I’ve again been catching clear glimpses of hope for America.

Kamala’s choice of Tim Walz as her running mate brightened up those glimpses and her acceptance speech at the convention turned those hopes into a solid silver lining around the Maga clouds that have darkened America’s future for the past decade or so. The Harris-Trump debate was a further boost to my optimism and as I currently watch how the erratic, senile, desperate, Vulgar Bully demagogue continues down the path to self-destruction, my desire to go back to the US has been showing renewed signs of strength.

Among the 50 States of the Union, California seems to be the one that holds steadier in its liberal principles, and this is perhaps truer about Northern California than about the South. Washington State seems to be equally steady in that sense, while liberal Oregon has been showing heavy signs of Maga contamination east of the state, with some communities even proposing to secede from the State and join Maga-tainted Idaho. For the moment, therefore, I wouldn’t consider going back to Oregon.

From the International perspective of someone like me, who has visited or lived-in 54 different countries in the span of 20 years (see list of countries here), there is a bright silver lining in America’s future. In my view, a Harris win in November is the ONLY visible way out of the dire predicament the United States is currently in.

But Harris’ win HAS to be decisive. We all know that the Vulgar Bully won’t accept defeat no matter how badly he’s beaten at the ballot box, so the numbers against him will have to be utterly uncontestable so that only those blind, Maga diehards will dare to deny it.

November 5th indeed represents a vital, fateful, even fatidic crossroads for the United States. None other than the fate of the American Democratic and Judicial Systems will be at stake that day.

With all of it in mind, I’m placing my election bets on those pro-Democracy, pro-Rule of law, pro-decency fellow-Americans who, just like me, believe that the United States deserves a future infinitely brighter than the dark, ominous, apocalyptic one vomited around on a daily basis by the amoral, convicted-felon, sex-offender, Vulgar Bully and his hypnotized, highly-mistaken, Maga religious followers.

Vote Democrat in November. Voting Republican could easily mean setting the United States down the catastrophic path to self-destruction.
