Shamelessly Following Their Dear Leader Straight Down the Amorality Toilet.

The myth of the Lemmings committing collective suicide by willingly jumping en masse off a cliff may well be an urban legend concocted by Walt Disney Studios, but the ongoing saga of elected Republican officials purposely following their dear leader straight down the amorality toilet isn’t. It is actually part of the unfolding American political reality of the moment.

There used to be a time when elected officials of any denomination would try hard to at least appear to have a resemblance of probity and if ever they got caught engaged in reprehensible behavior they would even resign if the transgressions were serious enough. Not anymore. Not since the dark, inauspicious advent of the Republican Führer into the American political scene.

Today, elected lawbreakers, even elected criminals are openly protected and shielded from prosecution by their partisan peers. Just recall how Trump was acquitted in two Impeachment trials and has never faced a jury on any of his 4 indictments related to the insurrection he instigated on January 6, 2021, all of it because his Republican co-religionaries across all branches of government decided to circle the wagons around him. Birds of a feather, flock together.

And this is only the beginning. Can there be any darker writings on the wall than having a criminal, amoral, authoritarian leader sitting at the helm of the country? Just consider some of the corrupt people the corrupt president-elect has thus far nominated for top Cabinet positions, particularly ex-Congressman Matt Gaetz and 2nd-rate FOX news anchorman Pete Hegseth, both of them openly accused of sexual misconduct among other transgressions.

Just this past Monday 23, the House of Representatives Committee on Ethics conducting an investigation on Matt Gaetz’ behavior, concluded that “there is substantial evidence that Representative Gaetz violated House Rules and other standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, impermissible gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress” (see here).

Yet, in spite of all those accusation hanging over Gaetz’ head, the Republican president-elect himself lobbied members of the Senate to have that morally-corrupt individual confirmed as Attorney General, while the vice-president-elect, along with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN), and others, publicly vouched unconditionally for that same criminal guy.

And in the House, Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) was the ONLY Republican to vote in favor of releasing the Committee’s report, meaning that even the self-anointed-pious, BIBLE-THUMPER, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) did his best to block the release of the report. Birds of a feather…

But none of this should be cause for dismay or alarm to anybody any longer, as this is just the initial first-wave of untrammeled corruption about to flood the halls and corridors of the American government.

With these matters in mind, I cannot help but think about the words engraved on a wall in Francis Ford Coppola’s latest movie, “Megalopolis”, which say: “Our American Republic is not all that different from Old Rome. Can we preserve our past and all its wondrous heritage? Or will we too fall victim, like Old Rome, to the insatiable appetite for power of a few Men?”

In the long run, whether the answer to those questions is in the negative or the affirmative may ultimately depend on how tall common Americans like you and me will be willing to stand in defense of Democracy, the US Constitution, and the American rule of law.
