It Seems that Only the American People Can Save Their Own Democracy.

From the perspective of March 28th, 2025, given that the Maga authoritarian forces are currently in control of the House and the Senate, it is highly unlikely that Congress will exert its Legislative authority to rein-in the growing excesses of the Executive, even as the Constitution establishes that, along with the Judiciary, all three branches of government are equal in power.
It also looks like the Judiciary stands on very shaky grounds when issuing injunctions against the apparently unconstitutional or seemingly unlawful dictates from the White House, particularly now that the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold hearings this coming April 2 to contemplate “Legislative Solutions to the Bipartisan Problem of Universal Injunctions”. (see here)
In clearer terms, that committee will be exploring whether US District Judges should have the authority to issue injunctions against presidential mandates that may affect the whole country. Can you picture that? The idea behind such "exploration" is that NO judge should have the authority to impinge on any decisions taken by the Executive, no matter how unconstitutional or illegal those decisions may be.
In other words, the Trump administration wants the courts to state in words and actions that the President of the United States is above the Constitution and above the American rule of law (see here). At the same time, there are millions of Americans who haven’t yet recovered from the adverse results of last year’s elections and are basically hiding their heads in the sand, still in a state of shock that immobilizes them politically.
Taking advantage of such absence of coordinated popular resistance, the Trump Administration keeps gaining momentum in its relentless moves to dismantle as quickly as possible the administrative capabilities of the US Government so as to eventually feel entitled to pronounce it useless, consequently claiming the need to place the unconditional reins of power in the hands of the “dear leader”, the American Führer, the first-ever dictator of the United States, Donald Trump.
Excepting the few years of the Civil War, the rule of law has prevailed in America for most of its 250 years of existence because of an unwritten consent from all the participating actors. In America, the Executive usually obeys the Judiciary’s rulings and injunctions only because of a traditional, agreed-upon, consensual respect for the Constitution of the United States.
That is, the US Executive uses the appellate-court mechanism to contest any court of law decisions it doesn’t like, only because it wants to, not because there’s any rule of law authorizing the DoJ to send law-enforcement agents to arrest the President if he breaks the law. And even if such rule of law existed, there’s NO way the current ultra-Maga co-religionary AG Pam Bondi would stand against Donald Trump.
While an elected US President is serving his term, there are only two Constitutional mechanisms designed to divest him of his presidential powers: a) section 4 of the 25th amendment and, b) the process of Impeachment.
As the situation stands today, however, activating any of those two mechanisms is unthinkable, as the full willingness of the vice-President, that of the Cabinet or Congress, along with that of the Senate’s pro-Tempore President would be required to activate the former and the full willingness of the majorities in the House and the Senate would be required to activate the latter.
Within the present circumstances, neither the Vice-President, nor any Republican in the Cabinet or in either Chamber of Congress would be willing to stand against President Trump. This leaves the American people with only one option, only one means to save American Democracy: THEMSELVES.
In considerably reducing the powers of the Judiciary as the Republicans in the Senate Judiciary Committee intend to do, the executive can eventually invest itself with unrestrained powers to the point of effectively putting in place an autocratic regime in the United States.
It is becoming increasingly clear that the ONLY way to avoid any such catastrophe mght be a coordinated massive popular pushback, meaning a massive popular demand that elected functionaries in Congress stand firm in defense of Democracy and by simultaneously staging massive, orderly demonstrations in the streets.
Ultimately, and as it has happened in other crucial situations in the history of the United States, the responsibility for saving American Democracy and preserving the American rule of law will rest in the hands of the American people.
Wake up America! The longer you sleep, the ruder the awakening will be.
