The Insidious Republican Trojan Horse Standing at the Gates of American Democracy.

In Greek mythology, the Trojan Horse was the deceptive, surreptitious means the Greeks used to penetrate the citadel of Troy during the Trojan wars. The Greeks had uselessly laid siege to the city of Troy for ten years, so, as a last resort, one day they built a huge, hollow, wooden horse, filled it with Greek soldiers, brought it close to the city gates, and then pretended to sail away on their ships.
After deliberations, the Trojan people decided the horse was a token of peace from the Greeks and pulled it inside the city walls. The Greek soldiers hiding in the horse’s belly waited till the Trojans were asleep and then emerged to open the city gates to let the Greek armies into the city. As a result, the Greeks burned the city of Troy down to the ground and enslaved or massacred the Trojan people.
The final demise and destruction of Troy happened rather quickly. The demise and destruction of American Democracy is taking a little longer. The Republicans have been seriously assailing the American Government for the past 10 years or so. Now they are bringing their Trojan horse before the gates of Democracy to see whether the American people will pull it inside the citadels of power.
But in my allegory there are no surprises awaiting us in the belly of that false beast. We all know what the Republicans’ intentions are: To dismantle the American Democratic and Judicial Systems and lay waste to the existing constitutional structures of the Republic, so as to finally put in place an autocratic regime.
According to the Greek poet Homer, it was Odysseus who conceived the whole idea around the hollow Trojan horse. In the American version, Odysseus is incarnated in the form of a few foundations and associations, the most salient among them being the Heritage Foundation and the Federalist Society, but all of them sheltered under the nefarious umbrella of the GOP.
The plan they propose to execute as soon as their Trojan horse is inside the White House is, instead of bringing MAGA militias to invade Washington DC like the Greeks did in Troy, they intend to populate the Executive Branch of government exclusively with MAGA extremist appointees so that eventually no trace of the original Democratic Republic will be left unburned.
Their plan they call “To Deconstruct the Administrative State” and it includes defunding the Department of Justice, getting rid of the FBI, the Department of Education and Commerce, and other asininities of that sort. You think I’m crying wolf here? You think I’m exaggerating? Please disabuse yourself. Visit the Heritage Foundation’s “Project 2025” Website and then tell me what you think (to do so, please click here) Or maybe you should read a brief description of the project’s content (please click here.) Or read an explanation of it (please click here.)
The Trojan people in that famous Greek story were fatally naïve in bringing the Trojan Horse inside the walls of their citadel, and their naivety cost them their city, their freedom, and even their lives. On November 5th, the insidious Republican Trojan Horse will be at the gates of American Democracy. Should a majority of Americans opt to bring it into the White House, the consequences for a catastrophic blunder of such magnitude would be immeasurable and, quite likely, irreversible.
But not everything is lost yet. Whether such calamity befalls America anytime soon will depend largely on your vote, so, let’s please not be as naïve as the Trojan people were. Don’t bring the Republican Trojan Horse into the American citadel of Executive power. Don’t vote Republican in November.
