Total Immunity as President + Total Loyalty from the Judicial and the Legislative = Dictatorship.

What else can you expect? It was so funny to hear how some of those Maga guys went around saying “Yeah! This country needs a dictator for 4 years”. Ha! No, you fools! You don’t get dictators only for as long as YOU want them. You get dictators for as long as THEY want!
The first thing dictators get rid of when they get to power is freedom of the press and freedom to dissent, which in a short period of time results in the end of Democracy. And once a true Democratic system is gone, how can you depose a dictator!?
Just think of Vladimir Putin in Russia. How can Putin be deposed by means other than a coup d’état? And even a coup d’état is basically impossible in Russia because all his Military Generals are now loyal to him and those who are not loyal to him are already gone.
So, how will you get rid of Trump when he becomes so drunk with power that he starts giving totally deranged orders? At that point in time, the only way to get rid of him will be by an armed, popular insurrection, which will basically amount to a civil war. Will you be willing to do that?
Donald Trump will have no legal guardrails as Commander in Chief over the next four years and there will be nobody in his Cabinet or in his inner circle willing to stop him from doing whatever he wants, as he will be surrounded by equally-minded authoritarians and shameless, unprincipled sycophants.
Just think about it for a moment. The Supreme Court granted total immunity to Trump a few months ago and now both chambers of Congress will by controlled by the Republicans so, there will no longer be any separation of powers in the American government. No Checks and Balances.
Trump’s administration will enjoy the characteristics of a true unitary government. The perfect scenario for a perfect American dictatorship. And to think that such catastrophic setup will have been brought about by the American people themselves, as in some sort of political hara-kiri.
There’s not a single chance that any influential Republican might revolt against Trump regardless of the seriousness of his future transgressions. For that reason, the only hope for American Democracy will now rest in the hands of the American Press.
Let’s just hope that there won’t be too many of those cowardly newspaper owners such as Jeff Bezos who cowered under Trump’s pressure for, if there are, our Democracy is toast.
For the moment, the collective wisdom of the American people is highly contestable. Maybe such serious lapse of collective rationality won’t inflict much irreparable damage to the nation, maybe it will. Whatever the case, let’s just hope for the best.
