America in November 2024: Damned if Biden Loses, Damned if Biden Wins?

America finds itself in a very unpredictable predicament these days. Even as the economy is doing fine, even doing very well by some counts, different levels of apprehension and uncertainty permeate the sociopolitical fabric of the nation. The specter of January 6 is now deeply embedded in the national psyche and, regardless of how hard we may try to minimize it or forget it, the possibility of a J6 2.0 keeps increasing in probability.

But there is also a lot of hype and misrepresentation of facts everywhere in America today and many of those polls and pundit opinions giving Trump high chances of winning in November are myopic and inaccurate. For example, even some Democrat functionaries and talk-show hosts go around saying it was a mistake to prosecute Trump in the hush-money case because his conviction only fired up his base. As proof of their assessment they cite the tens of millions of dollars his base contributed to his campaign in the aftermath of the conviction.

But what those chicken-littles fail to see is that those contributors are just the core, MAGA diehard individuals, whose numbers probably oscillate around 5 million and that all it takes is for them to give an average of US$10 each to come up with a US$50 million total. But what about the remaining 150+ million Americans who voted in November of 2020? Please recall that Trump lost by 7 million votes in the last election (Biden 81+ m., Trump 74+ m.) and I frankly doubt that any considerable numbers of Biden voters (if any) have defected to the MAGA camp. On top of that, many of those who voted for Trump in 2020 might not be willing to vote for a convicted felon come November.

Please also note that the vociferous, loud-mouth Americans willing to participate in polls are usually those MAGA diehards. What I mean is that, from my International perspective, Trump keeps looking more like a loud, phony Wizard of Oz rather than a real electoral threat to Biden. This, of course, is NOT a call for complacency. Even according to my perspective, we still need to vote in November against that amoral, anti-American vermin named Trump.

Unfortunately, however, it isn’t comforting to know that even when Trump loses in November, the country will in no way be out of the woods. Actually, the situation might even get worse, as we will still have Trump going around inciting the masses to revolt against the US Government and this time the uprising might be an armed one. This last possibility wouldn’t be as realistic as it is if only the Republican Party weren’t now inhabiting an American pseudo-reality that doesn’t include our existing Democratic and Judicial Systems.

No doubt those two systems are imperfect, sometimes highly so (think of the Electoral College) but they are still functioning well enough so that we can still work within them in our constant quest for a more perfect union. The thought of getting rid of our Democracy and our Judiciary simply because they’re not perfect is conceivable only in irrational, feverish, highly-confused, irresponsible anti-American minds.

America is well-known in the history books for its resolve and its resilience in the face of adversity. This time the challenge is deadlier than ever, as we are now facing a powerful and resourceful domestic enemy. However, with the active help of all American pro-Democracy forces, I believe there's a high possibility we can still pull this thing through.
