A Trump Win in November Would Bring About “The Tyranny of the Majority” in America.

According to some American Academics, the two-volume book “Democracy in America”, written by the Frenchman Alexis de Tocqueville, is “the best ever written on democracy and the best ever written on America” (see here). De Tocqueville was an aristocrat, diplomat, sociologist, political scientist, political philosopher, and historian who came to America in 1831 and travelled around the country studying American society.

In his work, which he finally published back in France in 1835 and 1840, de Tocqueville marvels at the wonders of American Democracy, but he also warns about a latent danger he saw lurking behind the American way of being that he thought could someday transform our Democratic System into a Tyranny of the Majority (see here). He saw that danger in the complacency that the American people demonstrated when considering the equality between themselves, particularly the equality between free, white, adult males (at that point in time, everybody else was either a non-citizen, or a second-class citizen)

In his view, such willingness to belong and to adjust themselves to the prevailing groupthink, could easily smother any minority desire to pursue any different ways of thinking and ways of being, meaning that the views and feelings embraced by the majority would end up being imposed on the minorities, which is what he meant when he labeled what could result from it “The Tyranny of the Majority”.

Fortunately, de Tocqueville’s Tyranny has never materialized in America, at least NOT in the countrywide sense that he feared, but it has already materialized at the level of the Republican Party, meaning that if the Republicans ever gain the presidency again and if, on top of that, they manage to get the majority in both chambers of Congress, de Tocqueville’s unfulfilled fears would quite likely come true and the rest of us Americans would end up living under Tyranny in the United States.

Trump will NOT win these presidential elections for the simple reason that the number of blind idol-worshippers who follow him don’t constitute the majority of the American electorate. This statement, of course, will be valid only for as long as the treacherous, highly-undemocratic Electoral College doesn’t invalidate the will of the American people as it already did twice since the beginning of this century. Whatever the case, as things stand today, the Vulgar Bully still remains a clear and present danger to the United States.

You might rightfully say that these statements I make are highly partisan, that only a Democrat or an Independent individual like me would think this way, but that is so only because the Republican Party has entirely submitted its will to the sinister wishes of their dark false messiah.

If the American sociopolitical environment were today at least as stable, and “normal” as it was some 30 years ago, the Republicans would also be able to foresee the crippling limitations to free speech and freedom of the press that our country would fall under should any wannabe-despot like Trump should ever sit again at the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office.

But today’s Republican “rationality” is neither Republican nor rational. It is amoral, it is un-Democratic, and it is un-American. This means that if Donald Trump were ever to gain the Presidency again, America would practically fall under a de Tocqueville-style Tyranny of the Majority, with the distinctive characteristics that qualify the authoritarian majority of Maga Trumpian idol-worshippers.

As a result, in the span of 2 to 3 years, the American press would be forced to toe the official Trumpian line, any anti-government dissent would be penalized with prison terms, and any vestiges of our Democratic and Judicial Systems would be dismantled or put under the strict command of Trump’s whims.

Please come to think of it. Just about a decade ago, this scenario I’m presenting to you could have easily been labeled “farfetched”, “unrealistic”, “fictional” or even “a feverish lunacy”, but not anymore. Not today. Not according to the way the Republican Party has behaved over the past decade. Not according to the way they have trampled all over their conservative principles. Not according to the shameless way they no longer believe in American Democracy. Not according to the way they have discarded their rationality and replaced it with a blind, quasi-religious, “Trump-is-god” kind of fanaticism.

As improbable as our present reality might have seemed by the beginning of the century, the naked truth, the naked fact, is that such reality IS indeed the current reality in the United States of America.

Fortunately, however, NOT everything is lost yet. There is still a bright silver lining around the dark Maga clouds presently darkening the American horizon and that silver lining is called DEMOCRACY. We still have a chance to use the mechanisms of American Democracy to SAVE American Democracy. WE STILL HAVE OUR VOTE!!

Please think seriously about it. This is NOT a joke. Our vote in these elections might end up being the LAST time we ever vote in a free and fair elections. Just put Trump in power once again and from that day on American elections might become a carbon copy of the elections in Russia, where no matter who the candidates for president may be, everybody knows that Vladimir Putin will always be the winner.

And not only that, but if there were ever any strong contenders to the presidency, they can be sure to end up in jail, and just like Alexei Navalny in Russia, they can even expect to end up dying in jail too.

These are no longer farfetched scenarios. If the history books are right, Tyrannies are NOT fun sociopolitical environments to live in, but the probabilities for something of that sort happening in our country are alarmingly high.

Let’s prove Alexis de Tocqueville wrong. Let’s make it clear that we Americans of good will don’t want to have any Tyrannic form of government in our country and let’s make it clear that we will never allow anyone to fool us into accepting one. Never. Never ever. Over our dead bodies!
