Living by the Horn of Africa was a unique experience. There isn't much to see in Djibouti, but the few spots I visited were worth writing home about. Lac Assal (Assal Lake), for example, is known the world over for two reasons: 1) At 155 meters below sea level, it is the lowest point in the African Coninent and, 2) It is where the original "Planet of the Apes" movie was filmed.

I didn't spend much time there, but the impression I got while walking on the salt beaches was something special. Please note that the white matter on the beach is not foam, but solid salt.

The pictures below also show some scenery I saw on the road to and from Lac Assal, plus some other views that called my attention. The pictures are shown in the chronological order in which I took them.
