A US Stand Alone Policy Can Produce a Self-Ostracized United States.

Careful what you wish for, goes the saying, meaning that sometimes getting what you want may produce results contrary to what you expected. It can happen that in the heat of strongly wishing for something you fail to foresee all the possible unintended consequences, so that the resulting circumstances actually turn out being worse than the preexisting ones.
A crucial repercussion of the uncertain predicament America currently finds itself in has to do with the essential question of trust. Can the rest of the world ever again think of the United States as a country whose political stability can be relied on?
Trump’s first attempt at upending the world order could have easily been blamed solely, or at least mostly, on him. In the 2016 elections he lost the popular vote by a margin of some 3 million votes, so it could have been argued that on that occasion he became President against the will of the American electorate.
But that was not the case in 2024. This time it was not only the American Electorate who handed him the Presidency, he also enjoyed the full support of the Republican Party and that of the majority of elected functionaries in Congress too. And even before the elections, the Supreme Court had already granted him full immunity for all official acts performed as president.
In a few words, the present chaos the United States Government is unleashing on the world can in no way be blamed solely on Trump’s madness. This time it can be rightfully said that in implementing whatever reckless stupidity Trump may implement, he is only carrying out the will of the American people.
They not only handed to him the largely-unrestrained power that he currently wields, but they continue to support him unconditionally in all his chaotic, immature, and insane performance as Commander in Chief. In the view of many of us, the breach of trust the American people have inflicted on themselves cuts deeper than just through the different layers of the current administration.
This time around, it is the American people’s political maturity and general judgement that have seriously lost credibility in the eyes of most other nations and will continue losing such trust for as long as they continue to unconditionally support the dangerous madness of their convicted-criminal-in-chief, whose self-aggrandizing, megalomaniac, destructive, autocratic ambitions overflow over the borders of the United States to threaten the stability of the whole world.
Trump’s current US-stand-alone policies risk producing precisely that: An isolated, self-ostracized United States of America.
And what do you think that powerful, narcissistic, attention-starved, megalomaniac, amoral, convicted-criminal-in-chief will do if he ever finds himself largely ignored by the rest of the world leaders?
I’ll leave the answer to that question to your imagination.
